Separate essentials and preferences
List the equipment you consider essential and the equipment that would be helpful but can wait. Explain which items must operate together. Include home-office or business needs that may not be obvious during a short site visit.
Gather equipment information
If a generator is already owned, provide its model and documentation. Mention solar panels, batteries and existing transfer equipment. Do not assume separate backup products can work together without review.
Keep location in the discussion
Generator operation introduces hazards beyond the wiring. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warns against running portable generators indoors or in garages, even with doors open. Include equipment placement and manufacturer instructions in the planning discussion.
