Walk through the intended use
Identify entrances, parking areas, steps, gathering areas and the route between them. Explain where existing light feels insufficient and where excessive brightness would be unwelcome. Photos from ordinary standing positions can help describe the setting.
Discuss operation and placement
Decide whether you want manual control, a schedule or another compatible control arrangement. Share fixture preferences before purchase. The electrician needs to review the location, exposure, available wiring and installation access for the actual equipment.
Plan the complete work
Clarify responsibility for fixtures, new electrical points and any surface restoration. If landscaping or other construction is planned, coordinate the sequence. Keep lighting ideas separate from claims that a particular arrangement will prevent crime or guarantee safety.
